- MPD Officer Involved Shooting: 1700 Block of Benning Road, Northeast
Agents from the Force Investigation Team of the Metropolitan Police Department’s (MPD) Internal Affairs Bureau are investigating an MPD officer involved shooting that occurred on Tuesday, August 1, 2023, in the 1700 block of Benning Road, Northeast.
Fifth District officers were dispatched at 5:28 am to the 1700 block of Benning Road, Northeast, for the sounds of gunshots. The first officer arrived on the scene and started investigating. The officer observed a potential suspect in the area. As the officer attempted to speak with the potential suspect, the suspect brandished a firearm and shot in the direction of the officer multiple times. The officer returned fire and the suspect fled to a nearby apartment building where he was apprehended by responding officers. There were no reported injuries to either the suspect or MPD officers. The suspect’s firearm was recovered on the scene.
On Tuesday, August 1, 2023, 37-year-old Saeve Evans, of Northeast, DC, was arrested and charged with Assault on a Police Officer, Carrying a Pistol without a License, Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device, and Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm.

- Arrest Made in an Unarmed Carjacking Offense: 1500 Block of Maryland Avenue, Northeast
Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Fifth District announce an arrest has been made in reference to an Unarmed Carjacking Offense that occurred on Saturday, July 29, 2023, in the 1500 block of Maryland Avenue, Northeast.
At approximately 5:35 pm, the suspects approached the victim, who was sitting on a motor scooter, at the listed location. One of the suspects motioned as if they had a weapon and took possession of the motor scooter. One of the suspects was apprehended by responding officers.
On Saturday, July 29, 2023, 26-year-old Daquan Skipper, of Northeast, DC, was arrested and charged with Unarmed Carjacking.
- Vehicle Sought in an Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun) Offense: 1100 Block of K Street, Southeast
Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s First District seek the public’s assistance in identifying and locating a vehicle in reference to an Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun) offense that occurred on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, in the 1100 block of K Street, Southeast.
At approximately 8:49 pm, officers responded to the listed location in reference to the sounds of fireworks. Upon arrival, officers located an adult female shooting victim. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported the victim to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
The vehicle is described as a gray in color Volvo XC60. The vehicle was last seen bearing DC tags: JC2655. The suspect’s vehicle was captured by surveillance cameras and can be seen in the photos above.

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Sixth District seek the public’s assistance in locating a vehicle in reference to an Armed Robbery (Gun) offense that occurred on Friday, July 14, 2023, in the 1300 block of 4th Street, Southeast.
At approximately 5:06 am, two suspects approached the victim at the listed location. The suspects brandished handguns and took the victim’s property. The suspects fled the scene.
The suspects’ vehicle is described as a white sedan. The vehicle was captured by a nearby surveillance camera and can be seen in the photo at right:
- Arrest Made in a Homicide: 1600 Block of Benning Road, Northeast
Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch announces an arrest has been made in reference to a homicide that occurred on Friday, July 28, 2023, in the 1600 block of Benning Road, Northeast.
At approximately 5:38 am, Fifth District officers responded to the listed location for the report of a stabbing. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male stabbing victim. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported the victim to an area hospital for treatment. After all life-saving efforts failed, the victim was pronounced dead.
The decedent has been identified as 33-year-old Monte Daniels, of no fixed address.
On Friday, July 28, 2023, 59-year-old Joseph Ballard, of Northeast, DC, was arrested and charged with Second Degree Murder while Armed.

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s First District seek the public’s assistance in locating a vehicle in reference to an Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun) offense that occurred on Monday, July 31, 2023, in the 200 block of K Street, Southwest.
At approximately 8:31 pm, First District officers responded to the listed location after receiving calls for the sounds of gunshots. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male shooting victim. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

At approximately 11:00 am, the suspect gained entry into an occupied residence at the location. The suspect then took property and fled the scene.

At approximately 8:14 pm, the suspects exited a vehicle and approached the victims at the listed location. The suspects brandished handguns and took property from the victims, then fled the scene in the vehicle.

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Sexual Assault Unit seek the public’s assistance in identifying and locating a suspect in reference to First Degree Sexual Abuse while Armed (Knife) offense that occurred on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, in the 1100 block of 2nd Street, Southeast.
At approximately 4:30 am, the suspect approached the victim with a knife, in the hallway of a residential building, at the listed location. The suspect engaged in an unwanted forced sexual act with the victim then fled the scene.
The suspect is described as a black male, 20 to 60 years old, and approximately 5’7” in height. He was last seen wearing an orange t-shirt, gray sweatpants and black ski mask.
