On Sunday, August 14, a man crashed into the barricade at East Capitol and Second Street around 4 a.m. He then set a fire, fired several shots at random and then committed suicide. (NBC-4) His name was Richard York, III, from Delaware. According to his mother, he suffered from CTE. Delaware Online
The monkeypox virus is here to stay, it appears, and At-Large Councilmember Elissa Silverman, along with seven other councilmembers, recently sent out a letter asking for more transparency and communication on the District Department of Health’s plans to share information, especially when it comes to less vulnerable populations, with an emphasis on equitable distribution. You can read that letter here. As a reminder, the monkeypox virus is transmissible via droplets and close contact. While it is not a sexually-transmitted virus, its spread has mostly been seen in men who have sex with men–– although a pediatric case in July happened here in DC. (DCist)
Attorney General Karl Racine has sued ghost gun manufacturer Polymer 80 for advertising and selling partially-assembled, untrhacelabe guns to District residents. One of Polymer 80’s claims is that their guns were licensed to be sold in the District, a false claim. Office of the Attorney General

Through the help of local interfaith groups like Good Neighbors of Capitol Hill and NGOs such as SAMU First Response, the community has been able to help.
