  • First District Investigation of an Armed Carjacking

The First District is investigating an armed carjacking that occurred in the 200 block of K Street, SE on July 24. The vehicle was approached by 2 black males, who appeared to be in their early teens, wearing unknown dark clothing, and black ski masks. One male was armed with a handgun. Taken was a white 2017 Hyundai Sonata with a Virginia tag of UKD3994. The vehicle was being followed by a white SUV unknown tag, make, and model.

  • Robberies in Navy Yard Area

On July 23, at approximately 3:15pm, a robbery occurred in the Unit block of M Street SE. In this case, a female victim walking in the area was asked by a male suspect in a stopped vehicle if he could make a phone call using the victim’s phone. The victim agreed, unlocked the phone, and made the call while still holding onto the phone. When the call went to voicemail, the suspect snatched the victim’s phone and drove away. This is a similar scenario to a robbery that occurred yesterday at approximately 4:45pm in the Unit block of I Street SE. In both cases, the suspect could only be described a black male operating a light-colored sedan.
Detectives are investigating these offenses and ask the public to call 202-727-9099 or text 50411 with any information. Patrol and specialized units have increased operations in the area of these offenses. Please call 911 to report anything suspicious or crimes in progress.
Additionally, the police sincerely appreciates the willingness of the community to help their neighbors when asked; however, given this emerging trend, we must urge caution if you encounter a similar situation in the future.
