Lighting the Capitol Christmas Tree
Last week was the annual lighting of the Capitol Christmas Tree. We sent our photographer out to capture the event. (RSP)
The tree is, as always, cut from a national forest, in this case Six Rivers National Forest in California. (RSP)
The arrival of the VIPs, including Speaker Pelosi (in red scarf) marked the beginning of the ceremony. (RSP)
Congress remained in session as the speeches leading up to the lighting took place (RSP)
In fact, both houses were in session, as can be seen by the flags left and right (RSP)
After a final speech, by a 5th grader from California who had won an essay contest for the honor, the tree was lit (RSP)
While the crowd dispersed, many trudging up Capitol Hill, Pelosi was driven the same way – with motorcycle escort (RSP)
