Building community:

March 22: Line the Capitol Fence for DC Statehood!

Do you want to bring awareness of the Statehood fight while also bringing awareness of just how annoying the Capitol fence is? Friend of the blog Andria Thomas sent this my way on behalf of Show Up For DC. Pencil in a week from today, Thursday, March 22. Read below and SHARE FAR AND WIDE! If you want to help with volunteer efforts, you can contact Andria at andria.thomas @ gmail.com ––Maria Helena Carey

If you’ve been looking for an in-person (but socially distanced and safe) action that you can take to support Statehood, here’s your chance!
On Monday, March 22 starting at 10 a.m., the House Oversight Committee will be holding another Hearing for DC Statehood. Last time we packed 2000 people into the hearing rooms, hallways, and overflow space outside. But this year the meetings are closed and all the buildings and lawns are fenced off. So…
Let’s line the Capitol Fence for Statehood!

  • Meet at 2nd and East Capitol Streets at 8:30 a.m.
  • Bring your Statehood signs, or take one of ours
  • Stand (distanced) along the fence to show our Statehood support!
  • Leave by 9:30 a.m. to make it home for the virtual watch party

If you can commit to being there and helping distribute signs, please let me know! Otherwise, hope to see many of you (and your friends and network) there.

Thank you for everything you do!

Andria

P.S. There are actions planned in every ward – please share with your friends!

P.P.S. If you’re interested in organizing a bit earlier at Lincoln Park and hosting a walk down to the Capitol Fence, let me know and we can help out!
