  • Suspects Sought in an Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Knife) and Theft Two Offense: 600 Block of Pennsylvania Avenue, Southeast

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s First District seek the public’s assistance in identifying suspects in reference to an Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Knife) and Theft Two offense that occurred on Saturday, March 20, 2021, in the 600 block of Pennsylvania Avenue, Southeast.
At approximately 4:54 pm, two suspects attempted to leave an establishment, without paying for services received, at the listed location. The suspects then engaged in a verbal altercation in the establishment. One of the suspects brandished a knife and stabbed the victim. The suspects then fled the scene.
The suspects were captured by surveillance cameras and can be seen in the photos below and in this video.

  • Arrest Made in Burglary Two Offenses in the First District

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s First District announce an arrest has been made in reference to Burglary Two offenses that occurred in the First District.
-Burglary Two/ Theft Two (From Auto): On Monday, February 22, 2021, at approximately 5:00 am, in the 1100 block of 2nd Place, Southeast, the suspect entered a garage of a residential building. The suspect entered a parked vehicle and took property then fled the scene. CCN: 21-025-119
-Burglary Two: On Wednesday, March 10, 2021, at approximately 7:38 pm, in the 900 block of New Jersey Avenue, Southeast, the suspect entered an establishment. The suspect took property then fled the scene. CCN: 21-031-141
-Burglary Two/ Theft Two (From Auto): On Sunday, March 14, 2021, at approximately 11:00 pm, in the 1100 block of 2nd Place, Southeast, the suspect entered a garage of a residential building. The suspect entered parked vehicles and took property then fled the scene. CCN: 21-033-558
On Wednesday, March 24, 2021, 31 year-old James Coley, III, of Southeast, DC, was arrested and charged with three counts of Burglary Two and two counts of Theft (from Auto)

  • Arrests Made in a Homicide and Armed Carjacking (Taser) Offense: 1200 Block of Van Street, Southeast

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch announce two arrests have been made in reference to a Homicide and Armed Carjacking (Taser) offense that occurred on Tuesday, March 23, 2021, in the 1200 block of Van Street, Southeast.
At approximately 4:31 pm, members of the First District responded to listed location for the report of a motor vehicle accident. Upon arrival, members located an adult male suffering from life-threatening injuries. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported the victim to an area hospital for treatment. After all lifesaving efforts failed, the victim was pronounced dead.
The decedent has been identified as 66 year-old Mohammad Anwar, of Springfield, VA.
The Detectives’ investigation on the scene revealed that the suspects assaulted the victim with a taser while carjacking the victim which resulted in a motor vehicle accident.
On Tuesday, March 23, 2021, a 13 year-old juvenile female, of Southeast, DC, and a 15 year-old juvenile female, of Fort Washington, MD, were arrested and charged with Felony Murder and Armed Carjacking (Taser).

  • Arrest Made in a Robbery (Fear) Offense: Unit Block of M Street, Southeast

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s First District announce an arrest has been made in a Robbery (Fear) offense that occurred on Wednesday, March 24, 2021, in the unit block of M Street, Southeast.
At approximately 12:00 am, the suspect approached the victim at the listed location. The suspect demanded the victim’s property then fled the scene. The suspect was apprehended by responding officers.
On Wednesday, March 24, 2021, a 14 year-old juvenile male, of Southwest, DC, was arrested and charged with Robbery (Fear).
