Hill Buzz

Good afternoon, Capitol Hill. Apologies if you were looking for the buzz last week, but honestly, I’ve been trying to keep my spirits up and some weeks are harder than others. How are you all doing? Reach out via social media. I absolutely love it when you all check in and send fun things and lovely things and all that. Over the weekend, a couple got married in a northeast backyard and that was the little bit of joy we didn’t even know we needed.

Congratulations to Taylor and Eric on their wedding, and on their tight network of friends who made this day possible. Thank you to Jess for sending us photos of the beautiful, appropriately socially distanced day. See more photos on Instagram.

What’s been going on, other than this once-in-a-lifetime pandemic?

The neighbors on Orleans Place have taken measures to narrow their streets so people can walk on the street for #SocialDistancing purposes. Greater Greater Washington has the information. What can you do in our local parks? Who can come and go? More guidance is needed as to what is acceptable social distancing behaviors at parks and Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton wants clearer communication from the National Park Service. Roll Call

AOC was “ripped” for having a virtual townhall from her “plush” DC apartment. Hm. Not sure I have an opinion here, but I’m always excited when I get to read the New York Post, with the same excitement I reserve for seeing Mormon missionaries on bike or that one guy who protests in front of the Holy See house near the National Observatory.

In case you hadn’t noticed, we don’t have any tourists to blame things on– which means that we can direct all our scorn and contempt at the people bringing their gym equipment to the park. The tourism economy has suffered a big hit, and the District of Columbia’s economy is the 8th hardest hit in the nation– only states like Hawaii and Florida come out ahead.
