Happy Tuesday, Capitol Hill and environs! Happy Hispanic Heritage month to you all as well! Here is an undying earworm for me, which I hum every September 16, and well into the 17th: Little Joe and La Familia, singing “Dieciséis de Septiembre.” You’re welcome.

Eastern Market Main Street has done it again! Behold INEZ FREAKING MILHOLLAND astride a horse. Can you tell we love our suffragists? Be even more excited: You get to learn more about these badass ladies at Constitutional: Votes for Women on October 19.

Right out of the gate, an obituary for the Washington Post Express, by John Kelly. My question is, and still remains, why can’t you keep publishing the Express online? I loved the quirky format, the silliness in the headlines and the discussion, but I’ve never been a fan of getting newsprint ink on my fingers. Is this a bad take on my part? I miss you already, Express. Washington Post

Friend of THIH Mark Sussman wrote a column over at Greater Greater Washington explaining how the concerted effort of frequent use of the app he and Daniel Schep designed, How’s My Driving, and the added visual of placing red cups to show how often bike lanes are violated, contributed to a success story in a formerly very dangerous bike lane. It’s a must-read and a reminder that we can all make a difference for everyone’s safety.

Added plug for How’s My Driving: Today I was crossing 8th and E Street NE with my 10 year old son on our way to school. A car did not respect our pedestrian right-of-way and nearly clipped us while turning left. I entered that person’s license plate into How’s My Driving and the database showed they have enough outstanding violations to have their car towed. This is the kind of information that is transmitted to District agencies and might ensure that people who shouldn’t be driving, aren’t anymore.

Frozen Tropics has information about the H Street Festival, culled from the press release they sent at the end of the week, plus a few other neighbor offers from businesses. For the magnitude of the event, there is just not very much information available about the actual festival from the organizers. A nearby neighbor, @EllieZoss, tweeted this morning about a pre-H Street festival event that took place at an entirely too early hour– not exactly an act that engenders good will with neighbors.

There’s a new Steak ‘N Shake in the bowels of the Rayburn House Office Building and some people think that’s unusual, even though there are plenty of other fast-food restaurants in these buildings. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ . Patch

There was a shooting at 10th and H NE on Saturday night. I hope it didn’t interfere with Art All Night. PoPVille

A man was pushed onto the metro tracks at Navy Yard Metro and he was almost electrocuted. Four teenagers have been arrested in connection to this assault. Patch

You could have a one-bedroom apartment many places– the nicest one is probably the one on H Street NE, honestly– or have a two bedroom semi-detached home in Penn Branch. Decisions, decisions. Curbed

The DC Streetcar was always meant to expand eastward, so it’s funny how now that this is closer to being a reality, it’s treated as if it were a novel concept. Anyway, it looks like the DC Streetcar is actually going to expand east, toward Benning Road Metro. The real question is, has the bridge been fixed so it can handle the additional weight? There’s a meeting about this important topic on Wednesday night. Curbed

Panthers, Lions, Packers, Patriots, Saints and Bears fans always have a home on the Hill or pretty close. Washingtonian has your watching-football-with-your-tribe needs covered.

Somewhere is actually at F1RST over on Navy Yard, and is undeniably cool. Eater

Speaking of sports: What are your favorite memories of RFK? The Athletic has some very good ones, but I want to know my neighbors’ favorites– leave us a comment on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter, or just email us at info@thehillishome.com. Just don’t ask Tim Krepp, ok?

Six years ago yesterday, we woke up to the awful news about the Navy Yard shooting. I will never forget the sick feeling that morning, not knowing what was happening but knowing that our neighbors were going through something harrowing. The Washington Times has a Q&A with the only Navy Yard employee to be wounded and survive that day.

Citywide and important if you like eating at restaurants: After the Initiative 77 fight left many in the restaurant industry angry and feeling vulnerable, local restaurant workers have come together to create a workforce coalition, so they can represent their own interests better. DCist
