Though I’ve lived on the Hill for well over a decade and a few of my friends are tour guides, I recently learned a couple of bits of trivia about my beloved Capitol Hill. How did that happen? I was invited to take a tour led by the spunky folks at Urban Adventures: the Politics and Pints tour
Urban Adventures is a company that runs tours globally. If you go to their website, you can see that they offer tours in most continents: With them, you can roam in all continents except Antarctica. They also have tours tailored to all kinds of activities: You can explore holiday markets or the cuisine of a particular country. And in DC, the tours are geared toward the history/legitimized gossip of our beautiful District. There are tours all over town. You can look up the DC tour schedule here.
The tours go on rain or shine. The day I took the tour, our group was a mix of umbrellas and rain ponchos, walking around Capitol Hill. You would think that two hours might feel like a lot when you’re walking in the rain, but that’s where the guide comes in: Tim, our guide that day, was personable and knowledgeable. He kept us entertained, deftly weaving his own personal narrative and trivia into the lore and historic significance of the town and the neighborhood. At the end of the tour, we finished at Molly Malone’s and got to know the rest of the group a little better. Many of the tourists in our group that day were from out of the country and had great questions about the United States and politics.
