There is an opiate epidemic on the rise in DC. According to HIPS, a non-profit dedicated to advocating for the rights of “individuals and communities impacted by sexual exchange and/or drug use due to choice, coercion, or circumstance, “opioid related deaths in the District have increased by 140% within the past two years. HIPS, which has been based on H Street since 2015, provides Naloxone (also known as Narcan) for free. Narcan is a drug that helps prevent opioid overdose.
Unfortunately, due to the rise in opioid abuse, there is a much more pressing need for Narcan, and HIPS needs our help. On Thursday, June 14, from 8-10 p.m., raise a pint (or several– it’s all you can drink!) of The Pug’s Fundraiser Lager for just $20. The proceeds from your libation will go straight to HIPS and to support the excellent and compassionate work they do.
If you go:
WHAT: HIPS fundraiser, “Knock Out Overdose”
WHERE: The Pug, 1234 H Street NE
WHEN: Thursday, June 14, 8-10 p.m.
WHY: Because our most vulnerable populations are the first to show the signs of an impending epidemic. As neighbors, we need to come together and help out– and raise a pint to being alive. Cheers!
