Capitol Hill:

Construction Around the Hill

Construction is an annoying part of life around Ward 6 and specifically around Capitol Hill and friends– from H Street NE to the river. The District Department of Transportation frequently shares construction information. We share it with you so you can be a little more prepared for certain doom. –Maria Helena Carey

Pavement Markings

Striping season is underway, weather permitting. Pavement markings indicate which part of the road to use, provide information about conditions ahead, and, overall, are a vital part of communicating the traffic movement. Optimal striping weather is warm and sunny (45 degrees and above with low humidity). Cooler temperatures prevent successful paint application. During colder weather, DDOT installs temporary roadway marking tape, as needed.

The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will temporarily close one lane on New Jersey Avenue SE between “Eye” Street and F Street SE, starting Monday, May 7, from 9:30 am to 4 pm, weather permitting. The work accommodates inspection as part of DDOT’s comprehensive program for rehabilitation of Southeast/Southwest Freeway bridges. The closure is anticipated to continue through Friday, May 25, 2018, weather permitting.

During this time, traffic will be limited to one lane, and motorists should anticipate delays while the contractor implements the lane shifts. All ramps within the work area will remain open. Traffic on New Jersey Avenue SE and the connecting streets will experience slower speeds through the work zones. Parking restrictions are anticipated.

Pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorists are urged to stay alert and use caution when traveling through the work zones. Fines are doubled for speeding in work zones. Motorists are also advised to plan for additional travel time, use alternate routes or seek alternate means of transportation, as delays are likely.
