The Set List:

The Set List: February 21 – March 7

Your favorite live venues have a ton of options for you to welcome the start of the spring season over the next few weeks! Plus, don’t miss out on your chance to win a pair of tickets to see Lights live at the 9:30 Club! Information on how to enter the contest can be found here, and you can check out our interview with Lights here to see what this alt-pop superstar is all about.

On The Hill:

The Mowgli’s, the six-piece pop-rock group responsible for summer jams such as “I’m Good” and “San Francisco,” is headed our way! The band is on tour in support of their new single “Real Good Life”: a super-fun song with a beat that will leave you bouncing your head all night long. While the band’s music features a standard guitar, bass, keys, and percussion lineup, it’s interesting to note that every member contributes to vocals— something you don’t see too often. Don’t miss The Mowgli’s at the Rock & Roll Hotel on March 2. I wouldn’t be surprised if this show ends up selling out, so get your tickets now!

Around DC:

David Cook stepped into the spotlight after winning the seventh season of American Idol back in 2008. (Oddly enough, that year’s runner-up, David Archuleta, is also in the DC area with a show on March 5 out in Alexandria.) In the years post-Idol, David Cook shot to the top of the charts. He nearly broke the record for the most songs to debut on the Billboard’s Hot 100 chart in a single week with 11 songs, coming only second to The Beatles’ 14 songs back in 1964. Cook’s newest EP Chromance was just released February 16 and is filled with plenty of indie/alt-pop influences and Cook’s wonderful voice. Keep in mind this event is for those 21 and over. Don’t miss David Cook at the Pearl Street Warehouse on February 23. Tickets can be purchased here.

From the band that brought us the electro-infused hit “Sail” a few years back comes a brand new album entitled Here Come the Runts! AWOLNATION is back on tour and headed for the nation’s capital this month. To learn more about AWOLNATION, you can check out our exclusive interview with frontman Aaron Bruno. English rockers Nothing But Thieves are joining in on this cross-country tour. The band has made a name for themselves in the US first with their 2015 self-titled debut and again with their most recent release, Broken Machines, last year. Hits such as “Ban All The Music” and “Amsterdam” have captured the attention of thousands of fans. NBT’s catchy music, filled with impressive vocals and interesting guitar riffs, will get stuck in your head. If you were fast enough to grab tickets to see AWOLNATION and Nothing But Thieves on February 24 at the Fillmore Silver Spring, you’re in for a great show.

Quinn XCII is headed to DC and bringing his eclectic mix of pop, electronic, hip-hop, and soul with him. While this Detroit singer/songwriter has been steadily gaining momentum since 2015, he had an incredible 2017: two sold-out headlining US tours, a debut full-length album that hit #6 on the iTunes pop charts, and the single “Straightjacket,” which has amassed over 22 million streams on Spotify. Quinn XCII is known for his high-energy, personality-filled, live shows that can make even a festival set feel like an intimate show. The 9:30 Club clearly booked great acts this week because Quinn XCII’s show on February 28 is also, unfortunately, sold out.

Galactic is a funk and jazz jam band right from The Big Easy. For over twenty years, the band has worked together as a collaborative unit experimenting with different genres, influences, and collaborations. Though the band hasn’t had a lead singer for years, they continue to bring their futuristic instrumental funk to the masses around the country. Be sure to catch Galactic on March 2 and March 3 at 9:30 Club. Butcher Brown will join them on Friday night and Aztec Sun will open on Saturday.
