When you think of the East Coast alt rock scene, Connecticut isn’t exactly the first place that comes to mind. But it is the home of A Will Away, comprised of Matt Carlson, Collin Waldron, John McSweeney, and Sean Dibble.
These guys have had a busy year touring with Moose Blood, Trophy Eyes, and Boston Manor, as well as releasing their album. Now, they’re back on the road again. This time around they are supporting This Wild Life along with Dryjacket at the Rock & Roll Hotel this Friday, July 21. (Doors open at 7 p.m., show starts at 8.)
Alt Press Magazine called A Will Away, “the future of the genre, plain and simple.” That might sound like a bold statement, but their new music can back it up. The March release of their debut full-length album, Here Again, on Triple Crown Records received rave reviews from the indie music scene. It’s clear that this band’s sound has significantly grown and matured since their start a few years ago. Each track seems to flow right into the next seamlessly, yet each song is strong on its own. The album’s combination of honest lyrics, raw talent and insanely catchy hooks makes it a winner. It is diverse in musical approaches, but still pushes the melodic pop punk, alt rock, and even nostalgic 2000s emo vibes to the max.
