To Do Weekend of March 30th – April 2nd

Arts on the Horizon presents Nutt and Bolt for kids under 6 this weekend at the Atlas.

Hey friends! April Fool’s Day is Saturday so I hope you are planning delicious pranks for your loved ones. I’m sure they will appreciate a break from reality!

So what else will you be doing this weekend?

Tonight, the Friends of the Northeast Library (7th and Maryland NE) are hosting a Meet and Greet at 7:30. The volunteers will be sorting donated books and organizing book sales. They are always happy to welcome more helping hands.

Learn to make the Burmese layered treat falooda with the folks from Toli Moli in the Union Market Test Kitchen. Chef JoJo will also teach you how to make another layered favorite Shwe Yin Aye, and take home a jar of cendol, an emerald colored rice flour jelly made from pandan leaves used in the dessert, made in class. The class is $45 begins at 6pm. Register here.

Friday is a DCPS day off so bring the teeniest kiddos to the Atlas for Nutt and Bolt presented by Arts on he Horizon, a company devoted to theatre for the under 5 set. This original piece is about two robots living in a junkyard who, with the help of their tiny audience friends, learn to work together. The performance is at 10am and tickets (for everyone age 1 and older) are $10. The play runs through Sunday. Get your tickets here.

Earlier on Friday, you can take your kiddos of all ages to participate in My First Lobby Day. The details can be found in this Facebook event. You can RSVP through this Google survey.

Author Catriona Ward will be reading from her award-winning horror novel The Girl From Youngblood at East City Books from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. The event is free for all– even scaredy cats afraid to read the book.

Saturday and Sunday is the annual Cherry Blossom Beer and Wine Festival at Yards Park. Attendees can enjoy tastings of more than 100 beers and wines, unlimited full pour beverages, access to DC area food vendors, and live entertainment. Saturday’s hours are 1 -4 p.m.; 6- 9 p.m. and Sunday’s fun is 1-4 p.m. Tickets are $1

Also on Saturday, stop by the North Hall of Eastern Market between 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and bring all of your HGTV dreams and questions. Fulcrum Properties Group is hosting a Renovation Expo with two dozen home renovation and remodeling experts.
