ANC 6A: The Department of Heath identified a vacant lot on the 900 block of H Street NE with a “serious” rat infestation that they will be addressing, trees and sidewalks are scheduled to be replaced or repairs, and a new policy under consideration for residential parking permits (RPP) should be open to public comment soon. The ANC voted to support the plans for the Rock & Roll Marathon, contingent upon a few items, and voted to reject Sol Mexican Grill’s request to extend its hours and alcohol beverage sales until an agreement is reached over trash concerns. ANC 6B: A settlement has been reached that is allowing Bullfrog Bagels to obtain a liquor license for it’s new location at 317 7th Street SE, but neighbors are filing a protest to the liquor license anyway. Trader Joe’s is aiming for a mid-2017 opening. 1st District Commander Jeff Brown reported that police are stepping up enforcement of the juvenile curfew between 11pm and 7am. Read more here.
ANC 6C: The Christian Defense Coalition got to kick off the meeting with a scolding of the ANC for not doing more to stop the construction of a Planned Parenthood site in the neighborhood. The ANC is asking DDOT to increase the amount streetlight along K Street as part of their work to combat prostitution. The Commission also discussed ways to save historic covered porches, frustrations with the city’s zoning administrator’s questionable interpretation of regulations, issues with timely communications from DC Departments. ANC 6D: Hill Country BBQ has canceled its liquor license and Park Tavern has closed and will reopen as a pizzeria. The ANC is asking DDOT to create a curbside pickup and drop off area in front of Van Ness Elementary School, and is expressing concerns about the city building a homeless shelter in 6D, arguing that these need to be spread out more around the city.
