Highlights from November ANC Meetings

Hill-Wide News: Councilmembers are considering legislation as part of the mayor’s safety plan that will include financial incentives for businesses and individuals to install security cameras on private property and support for nonprofits with a focus on decreasing crime. They are also looking for ways to replace officers with desk job with civilian workers so more of those officers can patrol streets.

ANC 6A: The ANC voted to support a traffic calming study for the 1200 and 1300 blocks of Constitution Avenue, NE, and to consider a DDOT proposal for new Lincoln Park bake lanes. The ANC also voted unanimously to protest the an entertainment endorsement request by Ocopa (1324 H Street NE) for an entertainment endorsement. Read about this and more at HillRag.com.

ANC 6B: The ANC has agreed to support a liquor license for the Starbucks at 3rd Street after reaching agreements on how the store will mitigate rodent issues in the alley that have been affecting neighboring properties. Community Connections returned to discuss more details about its plan to add primary care services to its offerings, and how it will help address community concerns about the foot traffic in front of its building. The ANC also talked about the increase in crime in the area over the last month. Read more here.

ANC 6C: The meeting focused primarily on the language suggested for a letter to DDOT expressing concerns about a planned “push-for walk” traffic light at 10th and Massachusetts Avenue NE, and wether or not a planned sign for the Keller Williams Capital Properties location at 519 C Street NE was setting a bad precedent. ANC 6D: The ANC reviewed and voted to support the latest plans from CSX to restore Virginia Avenue SE after their tunnel project, and the ANC is working to push for construction at 909 Half Street SE to minimize nighttime drilling. The Florida Rock developers also discussed their plans to restore the deteriorating bulkheads along the waterfront. Read more here.
