After discarding your OTC medications safely this weekend, you know you want to make a difference in your neighborhood. So on Saturday, September 26, come down to the Sherwood Recreation Center, 640 10th Street NE, and celebrate the beautiful open space, the diverse community, and the first birthday of the playground that the recreation center shares with School Within School at Goding.
The family-friendly community day goes from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. and will feature a moon bounce, face-painting and other community-building activities. Pro tip: if one of the community-building exercises is a trust game where you have to fall backwards and hope people catch you, make sure you play it at the new playground’s cushiony foam floor, which is very delightful. Also, make sure you spend some time playing with the sundial that’s right at the entrance of the park: as you step on the different months, your shadow can tell the time very accurately, albeit with no daylight saving time correction.
