Please Bring Food on This Bus

Planning on picking up some groceries at Eastern Market on Saturday? The fall apple harvest is in and there are probably even pumpkins for sale already; it’s got to be time to put on a sweater soon, right? Add an extra item to your grocery bag and drop it off at the bus. Yes, I said bus. Not the D12, not the bus at Trusty’s.  The 1975 Ford school bus marketing the mobile app, Venga. Indeed, they want you to stuff the bus.

The folks behind the Stuff The Bus food drive are well on their way to raising 5,000 pounds of food to DC Central Kitchen. They kicked off the drive with their mobile fresh food truck at the H Street Festival last weekend. You can bring foodstuff to donate or explore the options on the “virtual store” on the bus. For example, a $5 donation to DCCK means they will be able to buy a half dozen heads of hydroponic lettuce , $10 = 1 free range roaster chicken, $25 = 1 case of plump Shenandoah valley tomatoes, and $50 = 80 servings of pasture raised, hormone free, local ground beef.

The bus will be parked by the Eastern Market metro stop on 7th Street from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

In addition, for every person who downloads Venga, a free mobile app and website that shares exclusive offers, specials, happy hours, music, and events at over 130 restaurants, bars, and nightlife venues, the company and Monster.com will donate a fresh food meal to DC Central Kitchen.
