Ever been to a live performance that had you dancing in your chair, eager to try the moves you’re seeing on stage?  Here’s a unique opportunity to learn some steps from the professionals.  Tonight, the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop (CHAW) presents a free master class hosted by Step Afrika! from 6:30-8:30 pm at 545 7th Street, SE. Step Afrika! will teach performance techniques and take students through the creative process of developing stylistic expression of rhythmic footwork, body percussion, spirited vocalizing, and African polyrhythms. Participants will also gain insight into the life of a professional dancer.

The workshop is geared for all ages (6 and up) and reservations are recommended at (202) 547-6839 or email Victor. The master class is part of Step Afrika!’s “Home Performance Series 2011- The Migration: Reflections on Jacob Lawrence” which runs until June 26th at the Atlas Performing Arts Center in partnership with The Phillips Collection. Step Afrika! and The Philips Collection have come together mixing mediums to birth a new universe of creativity; personifying “The Migration Series,” an iconic body of work painted by legendary artist Jacob Lawrence. Master class attendees will also receive a 10% discount on tickets to the Home Performance Series 2011. Find out more about Step Afrika! and Step Afrika!’s Home Performance Series 2011.
