Monday Morning Circle Time

Good morning everyone. I do so hope you enjoyed the lovelygorgeousperfect weekend.  A weekend where the nosy were allowed to peep into the homes of complete strangers, cemeteries were for running in and mothers were fêted (or grumbled about.)

I drove on past Lincoln Park on Sunday afternoon and one would have thought there was a rally or festival happening somewhere.  There were just so many humans out enjoying the weather and the neighborhood. You could see that everyone was savoring the beauty as much as possible.  A cold winter followed by a miserable spring has us focused on enjoying this while we can.  For in DC summers are long, buggy and hot.  This bloom-filled perfection is fleeting…

So what did you do with all that delicious sunshine?

Maria: On Saturday, we went to Fantom Comics at Union Station to claim our spoils for Free Comic Book Day and ran into 10,000 of our closest friends who were there for National Train Day.  Another epic cilantro and arugula harvest ensued afterward, at our community garden plot.  Sunday, we celebrated Mother’s day with brunch at the Argonaut and then, that great American tradition: the Open
House.

Claudia: On Saturday I put on a crazy big hat and spent the day at Gold Cup in Virginia, and was glad to return on the early side to spend a quiet evening on the Hill.  Sunday morning I ran the Dead Man’s Run at Congressional Cemetery, had brunch at Montmartre, walked around Eastern Market, caught up on some house chores and squeezed in some
time to read outside so I could enjoy more of the nice weather.

Jon: We had a busy and productive Saturday, running errands all over the metro DC area (uh oh, almost called it the “DMV”).  We ended with an evening at our neighbor’s house for some barbecue and conversation. We enjoyed as much time Sunday outdoors as possible, taking in time at the Yards Park, Eastern Market, and watering our new vegetable garden.

Lauren: Saturday, we fired up the grill and made some delish chicken and roasted potatoes and enjoyed the backyard. Sunday morning I did the “Dead Man’s Run” with a friend who is always kind enough to run at my pace, although we were quite impressed with our time of 9:40 @ mile 1.After that, I may have slowed down a bit 🙂 Afterward, I enjoyed breakfast at home; took a nap; and went for a walk with the pup.

Sharee: After a brief foray to Pentagon City Saturday to freshen up my springtime wardrobe, we hauled out a 1/2 leg of lamb I’d bought at Eastern Market the previous day and grilled up the most delicious dinner ever enjoyed on a mild evening out on the deck.  Sunday morning I grabbed the camera and went over to Congressional Cemetery for the first Dead Man’s Run 5k, where I saw THIHers Claudia and Lauren running and Tim giving post-race tours of the notables permanently in residence.  I then picked up my better half to check out the final day of the House Tour, followed by a delicious late lunch at Senart’s.  After a toddler birthday part at Lincoln Park, we rested up and devoured the rest of the lamb.

Angelique: kicked the weekend off with dinner on the outdoor patio at the Argonaut on Friday. On Saturday, we were one of the 10,000 families at Train Day at Union Station. After getting our choo-choo on, we trekked out to IKEA to get some things as we are redoing the kids’ room.  Then, we came back home and recovered with gin and tonics.  I had a lovely Mother’s Day on Sunday with breakfast served in bed and then a trip to Baltimore to lunch at one of our favorite restaurants and then to see the ducks at Patterson Park.

Nichole: I spent most of my weekend off the Hill in various locations around NW celebrating everything from birthdays, to Derby Days to Bon Voyages. I did manage to squeeze in 4 classes at Bikram Yoga Capitol Hill and capped the weekend off with a silly movie in Virginia.

Jen: Friday night I finally watched the Social Network. It was good and reaffirmed my love for Aaron Sorkin ( I have a thing for highly verbal assholes).  Saturday was all cleaning and Little League followed by an impromptu dinner at my house with my in-laws.  Sunday, I attempted to avoid all domestic drudgery in honor of Mother’s Day.  My husband cooked a tasty brunch for me and his mother, although I did have to bust out my egg poaching skill.  The kids made cards with acrostic poems (“Never boring” was one of my attributes.)  They also folded and put away laundry which is a sign of a successful day.
