Reader Poll: Best Burger on the Hill

Do you ever have people stop and ask you, “where can I get a really good ___” around the Hill?  I do all of the time, and last week the question was about burgers.  We certainly have a lot of options, from the local (now national) chain Five Guys, to the much-hyped Good Stuff, to the numerous bars and taverns.  We also have mini burgers at Matchbox and The Ugly Mug.  Or maybe you want a bison burger from Granville Moore’s instead.  Where do you tell people to go for a really good burger? *This list is far from complete so please add to it!

I’d vote for Tunnicliff’s ‘cept they always overcook it. I’d vote for the Argonaut ‘cept that ain’t Capitol Hill. So I vote for Zest on Barracks Row. The Zest Burger for $6 during happy hour is an absolute steal.

Oh and one other thing. Good Stuff might be good stuff, but it’s also small stuff and overpriced stuff.

How did Trusty’s not make this list?

It should be noted that matchbox makes full-sized burgers in addition to the minis mentioned in the article. It’s actually one of the better burgers I’ve had on the Hill.

    No Checkers?

    No McDonalds either ?

One of my (former 5th grade) ES students, if voting, WOULD RAVE about the burger served up at “The Market Lunch.” GO Tommy G !!!! (I would jump at a crabcake or fish sandwich first, though, with plenty of that lemony homemade tartar sauce)…..

  8. Jon says:

That’s why there’s the “other” category. I bet almost every bar on the Hill serves some sort of burger.

Who says Argo’s not on the Hill?
Are you going by the historic district boundaries?

  10. HillBilly says:

I do. The H Street corridor is becoming a great place, but that doesn’t make it Capitol Hill. Someday Shaw may come around, but if it does that won’t make it Dupont Circle. That’s just geography.

The peanut butter and bacon burger at Ted’s Bulletin is wonderful. It took me awhile to try it, but it’s now surpassed my former favorite, bacon and bleu cheese burger.

Tried the burger and fries/onion rings at BGR in NW this past weekend in comparison to Good Stuff (it had gotten great reviews) and have to say it didn’t even begin to compare. Spike has his stuff just right!
