Hill Buzz

The Mardi Gras Snow Bar with cold beer and pitchers of hurricanes.

Happy Mardi Gras! Since my mother is from New Orleans, this time of year always means King Cakes and jambalaya — two of my favorite things.  Sadly our order of cakes didn’t make it because of the blizzard, but we made the best of it.  We took some of those massive mounds of snow and built a snow-bar in our back yard and had a hurricane party.  Somehow a hurricane party seemed all too appropriate after a blizzard.  Kudos to my sister for the fun idea and her husband for building the fantastic snow-bar!  I hope you all enjoy your Fat Tuesday and short four-day work week!

  • We Love DC found a great price on a Capitol Hill sublet: $140 1BR Affordable Snow Fort Sublet In Capitol Hill
  • Young & Hungry got an early look at Capital City Diner.
  • City Desk and Tommy Wells talked about the bag tax and how it’s going.  I know a lot of people are against this tax, but I am glad the lady at CVS has finally stopped trying to give me a bag when I only buy a pack of gum.
  • According to Frozen Tropics, Toyland is now officially open!
  • JDLand reported that construction delays related to the snow storms delayed the trapeze school’s planned opening this past weekend.  They will hopefully open on the 19th if they get their certificate of occupancy.
  • On Tommy Wells’ blog, Charles Allen reported that Tommy has contacted the National Park Service about the sidewalks they control and manage, such as Seward Square Park or “pocket parks” such as those at Pennsylvania Ave and 11th Street SE.  Hopefully they will be done soon!  He also reported that recycling pickup is suspended again this week and DPW will only be picking up trash from the streets — no alleys yet.

Sitting here on Feb 16, 30 degrees out, snowdrifts, listening to a familiar song reminds me……Can you do an piece on the ice cream truck guy? You know, the guy who never stops playing the music ever, even when he’s sitting in the same spot for 10 minutes? Serious, I wanna know more about him. I do believe he does just sell ice cream and nachos but where does he come from? What’s his story? I bet it’s interesting.

What drives a man like that to drive a man like me totally nuts?

Serious, I think it would be interesting.

  2. I don’t think any of us have picked up on that story since it’s been exhaustively discussed on the listervs, but I do think it would be interesting if we could get the owner/driver of that truck to do an interview with us. We’ll keep you posted!
