More ways to help Frager's this weekend

fragersMy shopping list of odds and ends is growing far too quickly. On a normal week, I would get half of the things needed to fix the odds and ends around my house at Frager’s, so it makes me sad every time I add another item to my shopping list. I’m pretty sure I’m not alone here, based on the number of emails we are getting about events to support our beloved hardware store alone. If you want to give a bit this weekend, here are a few ways:

Tonight the DC Rollergirls and The Fridge are hosting a benefit concert on behalf of Frager’s. Doors open at 6:30pm. The lineup includes The Throckmortens, The NativeMakers and Rodney Henry of The Glenmont Popes. Tickets are $20. Click here to purchase tickets online or purchase at the door.  All ticket sales from the event will be donated to the Frager’s Fund set up by The Capitol Hill Community Foundation.  The event is sponsored by DC Brau Brewing Company, Dangerously Delicious Pies and Quicksilver Productions. There will also be Crunkcakes. Need we say more?

Also tonight, you can stop by Al Fresco at Frager’s beneath the farmer’s line at Eastern Market between 6pm and 8pm to enjoy food from more than a dozen neighborhood restaurants. The list includes Acqua al 2, Bowers Fancy Dairy Products, Boxcar Tavern, Canales Delicatessen, Fine Sweet Shop, Market Lunch, Market Poultry, Montmarte, Pitango Gelato, Puddin’ Po Boy, Seventh Hill Pizza, Silver Spork, Tortilla Café, Tunnicliff’s Tavern and Union Meat Company.  Tickets, which are two for $6, can be purchased at the event; one ticket equals one “taste” from a vendor’s table. Part of the sale of each ticket will go to the Frager’s Fund, managed by the Capitol Hill Community Foundation. Guests will also have the opportunity to participate in a raffle for Eastern Market artisan offerings.

On Tuesday, June 25, join Frager’s employees in section 320 for the Nationals game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. A local family has donated tickets in that section to the store’s staff and has encouraged neighbors to purchase tickets online and to join them. Wear your Frager’s T-Shirt and try to score a cameo on the Nats’ HD, or just raise a ballpark beer to toast these hardworking neighbors. A special recognition is scheduled for the bottom of the fourth inning, so if you are not in Section 320 turn your attentions to the scoreboard or come on up to cheer.

Finally, this weekend and next weekend the Capitol Hill Community Foundation, which is leading the fundraising efforts, needs volunteers to help staff their tent at Eastern Market. If you can volunteer, please contact Gary Peterson at pgarylaw [at] aol.com.

As always, we’ll keep sharing any benefits and fundraisers we hear about. We can’t wait for Frager’s to come back stronger than ever!

UPDATED: On Friday, June 28th, from 6-7:30 p.m., Christ Church on Capitol Hill will host a buffet-style spaghetti dinner to benefit the employees and others impacted by the fire at Frager’s Hardware and its five neighboring businesses. The dinner, in the Parish Hall at 620 G Street SE, will feature Momma Sousa’s famous sauce, salad, bread, wine, and dessert. The Capitol Hillbillies will provide lively musical entertainment. All donations will go to the Capitol Hill Community Foundation as administrator of the Frager’s Fund. For more information, contact Pat Leitner at (202) 247-5222.
