It’s surprising that with all that’s happening on Capitol Hill, and how neighborhood-centric this little piece of heaven is, that there is no neighborhood blog.
Hyperlocal blogging is just that, blogging at the neighborhood level. Newspapers are no longer able to get into the streets of cities in a reliable ways. News of what’s happening at the street level always seems to come from our neighbors, and that’s where Home on the Hill comes in.
Citizen Journalism is the recently-revived discipline that’s the grandfather of the Hyperlocal movement. The number of “boots on the street” citizens are growing, and Xx estimates there are now X community-based blogs. Local examples are Frozen Tropics, covering the H Street, NE neighorhood, 14th and You, Pen Quarter Living, and the Prince of Petworth.
According to Small Business Search Marketing, Hyperlocal blogging actually has a long list of early adopters. Gothamist has covered New York since 2003 and DC-ist has been online since X. There are more than a dozen other city blogs in the Gothamist network, including LAist, Londonist, and even Shanghaiist. Metroblogging has an even larger network of more than 50 city blogs.
Home on the Hill seeks bloggers to contribute and cover the streets of our historic neighborhood. We seek to be a source of news, teller of tales, and to spread the wealth of what we know. Our neighbors know about a wealth of local resources, great restaurants, hip happenings and the latest gossip. The stories you swap at the dogparks, and the ones you hear from your neighbor, share them and join the movement.
