Jon Penndorf

Jon Penndorf has been a Capitol Hill resident since 2006 but has lived in (and close-in to) Washington DC since 1995, and wonders when he can start telling people he is “from here” instead of saying he moved here for college from New York. An architect specializing in green design, Jon works for a large architecture firm with an office in Northwest DC. Off-the-clock he enjoys spending time outside with his family, traveling, making and sampling gin and bourbon cocktails, finding new restaurants to try, and of course writing. He contributes to local and national architecture association newsletters on a regular basis in addition to writing for THIH. Jon lives with his wife, daughter, son, and cat in their SE Hill rowhouse.

Ah the quiet days of August.  Congress is out, the last family vacations are under way before the start of school, and it’s hot and muggy so few people want to be outdoors.  Oh, are you still here too?  If you plan on hanging around the Hill this coming weekend, here are few fun things […]

Not in My Front Yard!

It’s an election year and democracy is in action.  Unfortunately, that includes a cadre of volunteers who show up at dinner time to ring doorbells and ask residents for signatures and donations.  Many also ask for permission to post some sort of sign in your yard, and some of our fellow Hill residents enjoy collecting […]

Demolition to Move Forward at Hill East

On Tuesday the Washington Business Journal reported the District has applied for a demolition permit to knock down a 165,000 square-foot building on Reservation 13, also know as Hill East.  The building being torn down was once the DC General Hospital pediatrics building, and is located behind the St. Coletta School.  The demolition will include […]
