Jon Penndorf

Jon Penndorf has been a Capitol Hill resident since 2006 but has lived in (and close-in to) Washington DC since 1995, and wonders when he can start telling people he is “from here” instead of saying he moved here for college from New York. An architect specializing in green design, Jon works for a large architecture firm with an office in Northwest DC. Off-the-clock he enjoys spending time outside with his family, traveling, making and sampling gin and bourbon cocktails, finding new restaurants to try, and of course writing. He contributes to local and national architecture association newsletters on a regular basis in addition to writing for THIH. Jon lives with his wife, daughter, son, and cat in their SE Hill rowhouse.

Last night our own local self-proclaimed dive was featured on the Food Network’s “Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives.”  The show, hosted by California caricature chef Guy Fieri, takes views all over the country in search of homey, filling comfort foods served by local institutions and throw-back eateries.  Last night’s episode kicked off with the Tune Inn, […]

Potomac Potholes Persevere

So how many bureaucrats does it take to fix a pothole? Sadly, there’s no punch line to this joke, and the actual tally keeps climbing.  Over a month ago THIH reported how dangerous the driving conditions are on a short stretch of Potomac Avenue SE. After engaging the mayor’s citywide call center twice, I forwarded […]

The To Do List

Woohoo!  Long weekend!  I mean, let’s stop for a moment and be thankful for labor.  And what better way to honor hard work and long hours than by stretching a two-day break into three?  Lots of people will be heading out of town for one more dip at the shore, but if you’re hanging on […]
