The To Do List: February 14-17

Hello lovely readers! Did you wake up to an enormous cellophane heart? Have you scoped out all the caramels? Maybe squirreled them away? Ok, that’s me. I hope you too have had a love-filled morning! And I hope you have more self restraint than I do.

Jen is away this week so I’m giving the To Do List a whirl. Scanning the scene makes me want to drop the candy and check out some of favorite local spots.

Perchance you’re taking the day off with your sweetheart. For a bonding experience head over to the Postal Museum for the Dead Letter Office Gallery Experience today from 11 a.m.-12 p.m.. Could you be a postal clerk? In this activity, a volunteer challenges you to sort mail, deciding which letters will be delivered and which would be sent to the Dead Letter Office. Complete the challenge and leave with a prize!

Take a chance on a love match…with a book! Solid State booksellers have wrapped up galleys and decorated the packages with keyword hints. Today you can get one free with a purchase while supplies last. You may just find your new book soul-mate! If that’s a little vanilla for you, head to the shop under the cover of night the Litrotica Slam tonight.  Share your sweet and sexy love stories, dirty ditties, or erotic poems. Satirical or not, straight or gay, haiku or sonnets, everything is welcome. Pieces must be less than 3 minutes each. At the end of the night the staff will vote on the best performance and the winner will get a prize. Drinking and schmoozing starts at 7:00pm. Contributors will be drawn from a hat at 7:50 and the performances begin at 8:00 p.m.

Get your art on Friday at CHAW Friday ArtNight: Working from the Figure

Participants are encouraged to help each other and advise. Please bring snacks or refreshments to share, and your own drawing materials. There’s a $15 drop in fee. Easels, tray tables, and drawing boards are available on a first-come, first-served basis

File this under the heading ‘the opposite of love.” Shame 2.0 (With Comments From The Populace) at the Alas is on stage throughout the weekend as part of Intersections Festival and it’s heartBreaking. Shame Hate mail. Death threats. Intimidation. Incarceration, Artists under siege and house arrest. This is happening. Now. This is Shame 2.0 — and it runs through February 17.

Don’t you love the idea of Galentine’s Day? Grab your girls (or chick-lit loving boys) Saturday at 4 p.m. and head to East City Bookshop. Meet Jasmine Guillory, best-selling author of The Proposal, The Wedding Date, and The Wedding Party, during this special Galentine’s Day event.

Just so you know,  Guyentine’s Day is a thing. As it should be, especially if it has a “grody dude spin.” Plus, it’s an excuse to buy and exotic jerky pack. Exotic, not erotic — but still.

So, I hope you’re off to a fantastic weekend full of loves, friends, high quality chocolates — and can avoid those tasteless ‘be mine’ atrocities!
