These next two weeks are filled with everything from Venezuelan pop to chart toppers, to just a guy with his guitar. There is definitely a show for every mood. Check out these upcoming highlights from your local venues.

On the Hill:

MAE, or (m)ultisensory (a)esthetic (e)xperience, have had a strong career since performing hundreds of shows on four continents in support of their seven studio albums. MAE creates artfully crafted and emotional yet upbeat music for their listeners. If you’re looking for a night of pop and indie rock, this is the show for you. Check out MAE during their short east coast run on March 10 at the Rock & Roll Hotel. Get your tickets here.

Straightforward, emotionally driven, catchy, rock-influenced music is coming to the Rock & Roll Hotel on March 11 and you don’t want to pass it up. Timothy Showalter, also known as Strand of Oaks, masterfully transforms personal experiences into a wide variety of songs that defy the boundaries of a single genre and are sure to capture your attention. Noteworthy: Strand of Oaks has partnered with Plus 1 for this show, so $1 from each ticket will be donated to Planned Parenthood. What could be better than a good show and a donation to charity in the same night? Buy your tickets now.

Around DC:

Though you might not recognize the name as first glance, a quick YouTube search for Howie Day will bring up early 2000s hits like “Collide” and “She Says” that are sure to spark your memory. After being pushed into the spotlight with Top 10 hits, a gold record, and over a million albums sold, Day has gone back to touring since releasing his album Lanterns in 2015. You can catch Day’s heartfelt lyrics and smooth voice at The Hamilton on March 11. Get your tickets here.

Prepare yourself for an emotional, heartfelt night complete with an acoustic guitar and an incredible voice if you plan on seeing Secondhand Serenade at Black Cat on March 15. With chart-topping ballads like “Fall For You,” Secondhand Serenade was pushed to the forefront of the emo pop movement and became synonymous with love and heartbreak. 10 years after the release of his debut album, Awake, he is back on the road in support of the 10-year anniversary re-release. This will be a great show so buy your tickets now.

If you are looking for something a little more unique to spice up your week, don’t miss Rawayana. Listening to this Venezuelan self-proclaimed “trippy-pop” band with reggae influence and high energy is even more exciting than it sounds. Rawayana proves that you don’t need to share a language to connect through music. They will bring their music to the Howard Theatre on March 16 in support of their newest album Trippy Caribbean. Get your tickets here.

A Great Big World took over the radio for weeks with their song “Say Something,” featuring no other than Christina Aguilera, and again with “Hold Each Other” from their most recent album. This pop duo has proven that powerful and meaningful lyrics are what they do best, and it doesn’t disappoint. You can see A Great Big World live in concert at The Hamilton on March 18.
