727 8th Street SE is now open for business as Summit to Soul! We were invited to a launch party last week to check out the new space and are really excited to welcome new retail to the neighborhood.
While a lot of retail that is coming to our general area is comprised mostly of national chains, such as Petco at Anthology and Navy Yard, and REI in the Uline Arena complex –which may be in Ward 5, but which, much like the Hecht Stores in Ivy City, Capitol Hill faithfuls will patron eagerly once they are open– we love seeing a small business open and thrive.
The space, formerly occupied by Capitol Hill Sporting Goods & Apparel since 2002, has been rearranged in an airy, welcoming way– a lighter, peppier, individually-owned Lululemonesque store in the heart of Barracks Row. And for a tiny store, Summit to Soul has big goals: They have pledged to carry only sustainable, eco-friendly, or Made-in-USA products. At the preview, I fell in love with an adorable cotton dress that didn’t look like anything other than a dress –no multipurpose sweat-wicking, aerodynamic engineering here. I took the dress as a sign that even the least active among us can find something lovely at Summit to Soul. Guys, take note: There are plans to carry menswear at the store, but there is no men’s section for now.
We look forward to seeing all the activities and partnerships you forge over the years, Summit to Soul! As Claudia pointed out, we have no women’s athletic options aside from Pacer’s –which is strictly running apparel. Capitol Hill needs more retail like you guys: Cheers!
Thank you so much for coming to the store last week. I’m so delighted to be on the Hill! 🙂
It was so much fun! Best of luck!!!
