Union Kitchen’s Entrepreneur Leadership Academy (grades 9-12)
I wish there had been something like this when I was a high schooler. This is not your typical summer camp: An innovative approach at reaching the youngest entrepreneurs, the Leadership Academy is an opportunity for high school age and rising high-schoolers to take their proverbial lemonade stand to a new place. These two-week sessions are designed to allow kids to develop their own business skills as they help real businesses and start-up businesses solve their own real-world problems. In addition to spending time at the Union Kitchen incubator at Ivy City (a short drive from the Hill), the kids will have the opportunity to meet key people in the local business world and count on their inspiration and guidance. They will also get to see practical everyday aspects to running a business, such as how the back of a store looks and is run at Union Kitchen Grocery, 3rd and F Street NE. The biggest perk? Every day for two weeks, the kids will not only get to see how a business is grown and developed before their eyes, but they also get lunch from Union Kitchen– a bonus that’s worth its weight in gold.
For the month of April, the cost of camp is reduced by 50%, so take advantage of the cost savings. To find out more, visit their site: http://unionkitchendc.com/entrepreneur-leadership-academy/

Music on the Hill Summer Camps (ages 4-16)
If you have a budding musician in your hands, or if you just want kids to continue their music education in a great environment, taught by professional musicians and within walking distance to three great parks in the heart of the Hill then Music on the Hill’s camps are for you! Although Rock Band camp is full, you can still sign up your kids for Guitar camp or have Broadway singalong FOR DAYS with their Broadway Sings camp (It’ll be like buttah). For more information, call 202-733-3158, check their website to see which camps are still open or email info [at] musiconthehilldc [dot] com
Soccer Camps: Challenger/Soccer on the Hill and DC Way (elementary/middle-school)
There is nothing quite like soccer to get your kids adorably, apple-cheeky tired. Soccer is great to build stamina, hand-eye coordination, and loud chanting. There are two soccer camps based out of Tyler Elementary throughout June, July and August. DC Way gets things started right after school ends, and they return a couple of times more– they also teach after school at several Hill schools. You can find more details by clicking here.
Challenger Sports works with Sports on the Hill (where you can sign kids up year-round for all kinds of sports, by the way!) to teach kids British soccer. The coaches come from different points in the UK and they stay with local families, which adds a family feel to the camps. Find out more about Challenger by clicking here.
Northeast Stars Montessori Camp (ages 2-6)
If you’re looking for a camp with weekly offerings that offers a complement to Montessori education year-round, Northeast Stars is for your child. Learn more over on their website or call them directly at (703) 945-0408.
Our sponsor Capitol Hill Arts Workshop also has summer camp programs. You can learn more about them following this link.
If you have a camp with open enrollment that should be added to this list, drop me a line in the comments section, at maria [dot] carey [at] thehillishome.com or tweet me directly at @themadamemeow.
Thanks for this! DC government also has a list of camps; it’s on http://summer.dc.gov/. Camps listed are run by private operators (nonprofit and for profit) and DC government agencies. The site will be updated as information is added, so the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Education tells me.
Thanks, Susie! Great info!
