How To Properly Get Rid of Your Christmas Tree

Christmas in February?

The 12th night has passed and Christmas is officially over. It’s time to take down that Christmas tree before it turns into a fire hazard. (Speaking of which, take this as a reminder to change the batteries in your smoke detectors!)

The easiest way to dispose of your Christmas tree is to put it in the tree box in front of your house. The D.C. Department of Public Works (DPW)  will collect them on your assigned trash day as long as their is space in their trucks. All ornaments and lights should be removed from the trees and other greenery and the trees should not be put in bags. Unwanted artificial trees and greenery should be put in the trash.

If you’d rather not rely on DPW, AND have someone vacuum up all those pine needles for you, give the guys at DC Tree Delivery a call. For $40 they will remove the tree from your house, vacuum up the needles, and recycle your tree into mulch.
