Hill Buzz

It looks like we got through our first snowfall without much incident.  I’m hoping that next time, Mother Nature makes it a little less wet and icy so I can actually enjoy walking in it, instead of coming out soaked and cold.  The weather did provide a great excuse to stay in and decorate for the holidays.  And from the looks of things when I was driving around last night, many of you stayed in this weekend to decorate as well!  The neighborhood is looking wonderfully festive!  In case you were too busy decorating and kicking off the holiday party season, here are a few good items you may have missed from the local blogs:

  • Young & Hungry discovered a delicious savory waffle on Belga Cafe’s dinner menu.
  • DC Mud reported on a development showdown on H Street NE.
  • C Street, NE Project announced that DDOT has begun a transportation and environmental study of the C Street and North Carolina Ave corridor from 21st St. to 15th St.
  • City Desk examined the debate over installing new multi-space parking meters on H Street NE.
  • Prince of Petworth shared some information on the Star and Shamrock Tavern, which is slated to open on H Street NE next door to H Street Country Club.
  • DCist reported that the H Street Shuttle has been officially ended due to a lack of funding.  Tommy Wells tweeted that he spoke with Mayor Fenty regarding the issue and it’s looking “promising,” but why i hate dc thinks it doesn’t make sense to spend money on a shuttle that duplicates the X2 bus route.  DCist has the more complete scoop on Wells’ tweet, in which why i hate dc’s criticism was addressed (X2 stops every block or two while the Shuttle was express).

  1. David Holmes says:

Turned out not to be a showdown, the developer withdrew from consideration before the Board of Zoning Adjustment. Unfortunately substantial construction had already started in advance of the BZA hearing, and without any permits displayed.
