When I was a kid, I lived right off of Lincoln Park. I remember seeing the huge crowds walking to RFK Stadium for Redskins games – tickets we could only hope to one day get, since the waiting list was legit back then. What was even more exciting was that back then, the Redskins would actually WIN. You know that big game called the Super Bowl? They use to actually make it to that game. It was awesome. Then they moved to Maryland and have only made it to the playoffs three times in 13 years. Maybe it’s time to bring them back to the Hill? Just a thought…
Anyway, here’s your weekly round up of some good reading about our great neighborhood from around the Web.
- The Washington Post profiled H Street, an article that is the launch of a new partnership with Urban Turf. The article is a good read but Frozen Tropics pointed out a few inaccuracies, as did several of her readers in the comments.
- DCist reported that the movie theater in Union Station closed…and no one seemed to notice besides the National Community Church, who used the theater for their services for 13 years. About 2 years ago I went to a movie there, and was quickly reminded why I hadn’t been there in more than 5 years.
- DC Metrocentric reported that 55 M Street signed its first tenant. Hopefully this means more to come!
- City Paper’s Young & Hungry brought us details about Biergarten Haus, the beer garden that is scheduled to open on H Street this winter. The 5,000 square-foot restaurant will be next to the Rock and Roll Hotel.
- The one has me very excited: according to Frozen Tropics, The Philadelphia Water Ice Factory will stay open through the winter (the usually close for the winter months. Even better – they will stay open until 2:30 am on Friday and Saturday nights. Now you know where to go after Thriller on H Street on Friday! And even better still – they will soon offer delivery!

A movie theater as part of the Hine project has always made sense to me. It doesn’t have to be a megaplex, just a smaller version of E Street + a kids movie.
