Hill Buzz

Welcome back to the work week!  The beauty of long weekends is that you only have to suffer through four days at the office before the next weekend.  The downside is that you only have four days to get all of your work done.  And that backlog of emails waiting for you?  It will still be there in 10 minutes, as will the following links I’ve pulled for you this morning.  But before reading on, please take a moment to donate to one of many organizations helping the relief efforts in Haiti if you have not done so already.

  • Readers of Prince of Petworth had some good things to say about Toscana Cafe, a restaurant I recent tried for the first time.  I’m waiting to write a full review until I have tried a few other items on their menu but so far I think it’s worth a trip if you have a craving for Italian food.
  • Prince of Petworth also reported that Bistro Cacao has opened where Two Quail used to be on Massachusetts Avenue, NE.  I’ve heard good things so far but haven’t made it there yet myself.  Let us know your impression if you have tried it.
  • H Street Great Street reported on some upcoming development for the H Street corridor.
  • DC Wire and DCist reported on yet another prostitution bust at a massage parlor on Capitol Hill.  The Orange Spa at 617 Pennsylvania Avenue, SE was one of several health spas, social clubs and massage parlors closed down for some questionable activities.
  • We Love DC profiled Near Southeast and the Capitol Riverfront in their “Where We Live” series.
  • City Paper noticed that more chains and fewer unique vendors are occupying the Union Station food court, a long time fear of the vendors there who feel they are getting pushed out.
  • Famous DC highlighted one of my favorite houses on the Hill.  Anyone know who the NOLA fan is that lives there?
