Here at The Hill is Home we try to spread the love, the info, and all the goodies throughout the week, but sometimes there are things that (almost literally) come in at the last minute. So here you go, fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants people, livin’ la vida loca on the weekend with no concrete plans: this post is for you!! Pacifico Cantina opens tomorrow!!!! O, 518 8th Street SE… you’ve come a long way from those sad days where you housed the video store with the seedy spank video section. Tomorrow starting at 10 am, we can all drink to your wood-paneled and terraced gorgeousness. As if we needed an excuse to drink on a Saturday morning.
PS: Psst…. don’t tell the ‘burbs that our April Fools’ from last year is, well, an April Fool. Thank you to alert reader and commenter Tracy Cronlund for the tip!
I’m very much looking forward to checking out Pacifico Cantina … I get cheesily excited when the ‘hood fills a niche. This place most certainly does that.
I think the cheap looking sign on the front with the red letters and lousy font really makes the whole street look bad. It looks too much like a chain restaurant sign. On the up side, I like being able to watch the televisions upstairs on the roof. Perfect for Nats games without missing out on a sunny day if only the screens were a little bigger and they used the volume during the games. Food is just okay. A little odd though to have two Mexican food type places so close to each other.
I’m unclear what niche this establishment fills. For Latin food Las Placitas, Banana Cafe, and Tortilla Cafe are all within a block or two. None of those are just Mexican or Tex-Mex but they all offer similar types of food. A little farther from Eastern Market gets you more options with La Lomita, La Loma, Tortilla Coast, La Plaza, La Lomita Dos…I suppose we can be thankful this isn’t another upscale pub but there are other niches I hope will be filled.
