Happy Tuesday, dear readers!  I figured this week’s photo was appropriate as Oktoberfest is underway in Germany.  Yes, I’m mildly jealous of my co-workers who are there while I sit at my desk taking care of some very exciting work.  On to Hill talk.  If you made it to the Barracks Row Fall Festival, won’t you share your pictures with us?  What was supposed to be a rainy washout ended up being a great weekend around the Hill.  Festivals, the last home stretch for the Nationals, plenty of great food and shopping — all in all, a great weekend to love our neighborhood.  It might not have been perfect fall weather, but I’ll take it anyway!  And now on this rainy Tuesday morning, it’s time to pour another cup of coffee and catch up on some reading.

  • We Love DC‘s second post on the Open Walls Initiative looked at the graffiti under the highway at Garfield Park.
  • JDLand shared the unsettling news that a house on the 300 block of Virginia Avenue was hit by a stray bullet, shot from a car on the SE/SW freeway.  More unsettling — the bullet hit a baby’s crib.  Thankfully, the five-day old baby was not in her crib at the time.  Commander Hickson shared more details on the MPD-1D listserv: “There was a shooting on the Freeway that involved a passenger in one moving vehicle firing at another moving vehicle. As a result of that shooting a shot struck and entered a private premise in the 300 block of VA Ave SE, causing damage to the home and the targeted vehicle. Thankfully, no one was injured in the vehicle or the home. The only description that was provided was for a black “luxury” vehicle, occupied by three subjects.”  WJLA also covered the story.
  • Young & Hungry reported that Mike Isabella, owner of Graffiato is looking at spots on H Street, but it’s still a “pie in the sky dream right now,” so don’t get too excited.
  • Housing Complex reported that the Hill Center should open in about three weeks — delays have been due to a delay with the sale of tax credits.
  • We Love DC checked out TruOrleans.  The consensus seems to be that the drinks are great but the food still needs some work.
  • Young & Hungry is helping Good Magazine determine the sandwich that best represents D.C. for the magazine’s forthcoming map of the best creations on bread, state by state.the best sandwiches in the country.  The blog’s readers have nominated the Mangialardo and Sons’s G-Man, which I know many of our readers will agree with!
  • Greater Greater Washington posted pictures from the Barracks Row Fall Festival.
