Spooky fun! Photo by Maria Helena Carey.

In less than ten days it’s Halloween and here at The Hill is Home we love ourselves some HALLO-WHIMSY. I am talking about our Spooky Hill is Home Halloween map, which you can see here. Want to add your house to the map? Click here!

On to the news:

Troubled Cafe 8 has been closed down according to WJLA, but probably will reopen conditionally, according to Capitol Hill Corner. This comes after one of their patrons, 41-year old Jerell Lamont Jackson (FOX-5) allegedly shot a National Guardsman after a fight that started inside the hookah lounge continued to escalate on the street. Councilmember Charles Allen called for the closure of the establishment, which has a long history of troubles and had to raise the minimum age of their patrons to 30 and over (Hill Rag).

CityCast takes a long look at the recent spate of very young youth offenses in the Kingman Park area and the conflict among neighbors on how best to proceed.

Scooter rider? Be aware that MPD will be focused on scooter safety and awareness. Don’t be a dummy (YouTube) wear a helmet! MPD press release

Why is it important to focus on scooter safety? Because scooters go entirely too fast and many riders tend to ride on the sidewalk! Watch this funny Instagram reel with Councilmember Charles Allen about what steps DDOT will also be taking to help keep scooters safe (and neater) for everyone.

The DC Armory is not the most gorgeous building ––though it is an example of Art Moderne from the early 1940s. It is also filled with DC history. That’s why the DC Preservation League has applied to ensure it’s registered under the National Register of Historic Places and protect it ahead of the RFK redevelopment. More over at the Washington Business Journal.

Also over at WBJ-– the forthcoming Commanders stadium has fueled (ha!) concerns that it may be powered by a natural gas plant. However, the Bowser administration and the team have both expressed that there will not be a gas plant powering the stadium AT ALL…. except for a teeeeeensy amount of natural gas that will indeed power the stadium until the utility infrastructure catches up because there is not enough power to, you know, power the stadium AND the surrounding areas. Yikes?

Finally, our condolences to the family in the 1700 block of E Street SE, who lost their kitty cat in a fire on Saturday morning. Thankfully, the humans are okay. WJLA
