- MPD Arrests Suspect in Ridge Road Shooting
The Metropolitan Police Department announces the arrest of a suspect who shot at a man while he was sleeping in the hallway of an apartment building in Southeast.
On Tuesday, October 10, 2025, at approximately 3:19 a.m., the victim was sleeping in the hallway of an apartment building in the 400 block of Ridge Road, Southeast. The suspect exited his apartment, produced a gun and demanded the victim to leave the apartment building. As the victim fled, the suspect shot at the victim multiple times. The victim was not injured. The suspect was not located by responding officers.
The detectives’ investigation identified 45-year-old Antwan Gales of Southeast, D.C. as the suspect. On Thursday, August 13, 2026, pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant Antwan Gales, was arrested and charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun).
- MPD Makes Arrest in K Street Homicide
The Metropolitan Police Department announces the arrest of the suspect in a homicide that occurred in Northeast.
On Sunday, August 16, 2026, at approximately 8:27 a.m., Fifth District officers respondd for the report of an unconscious person in the 200 block of K Street, Northeast. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male with visible injuries who was unconscious and not breathing inside of a residence. DC Fire and EMS responded to the scene and found no signs consistent with life and pronounced the victim dead. The victim was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for autopsy.
Based on the scene investigation probable cause was established to make an arrest. This case is domestic in nature.
The victim has been identified as 81-year-old John Wesley Knight Jr., of Northeast, D.C.
63-year-old Sherry Lou Sanders, of Northeast, D.C. was charged with Second Degree Murder
- MPD Investigating Benning Road Homicide
The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred in Southeast.
On Monday, August 17, 2026, at approximately 2:30 p.m., Sixth District officers responded to the 5000 block of Benning Road, Southeast for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male suffering from gunshot wounds. DC Fire and EMS responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital, where he later died due to his injuries.
The decedent has been identified as 37-year-old John Watts, of Southeast, DC.
- MPD Arrests Suspect in Multiple Offenses
The Metropolitan Police Department announces the arrest of a suspect in multiple offenses that occurred in Northeast.
On Thursday, August 13, 2026, at approximately 3:40 p.m., the suspect approached a victim at the intersection of 5th and F Street, Northeast, forcibly took the victim’s property, and fled on foot. The victim’s credit card was subsequently used. Officers later located and arrested the suspect, recovering some of the victim’s property.
On Thursday, August 13, 2026, 27-year-old Zion Abdul Alhassan, of Columbia, MD, was arrested and charged with Robbery (Force and Violence) and Misdemeanor Credit Card Fraud CCN: 26017834
Additionally, Alhassan was charged with the following offenses:
-Robbery (Snatch): On Saturday, August 8, 2026, at approximately 1:30 p.m., the suspect approached the victim on foot in the 700 block of 3rd Street, Northeast. The suspect engaged the victim in conversation while walking. The suspect then snatched the victim’s property and fled on foot. A canvass led to the recovery of some of the victim’s discarded property. CCN: 26111143
-Burglary One & Threats to Kidnap or Injure a Person: On Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at approximately 3:50 p.m., the suspect entered an occupied residence in the 600 block of Acker Place, Northeast. While inside, the suspect took the victim’s property and fled on foot. The victim and a witness began chasing the suspect. During the chase, the suspect threatened to shoot the witness, and the suspect fled the scene.
- MPD Investigating Northwest Pedestrian Fatality
The Metropolitan Police Department’s (MPD) Major Crash Investigations Unit is investigating a traffic fatality involving a pedestrian that occurred in Northwest.
On Sunday, August 16, 2026, at approximately 6:48 p.m., Third District officers responded to the intersection of North Capitol Street and New York Avenue, Northwest, for the report of a crash involving a pedestrian. Officers located an adult female suffering from serious injuries. DC Fire and EMS responded to the scene, and after finding no signs consistent with life, the pedestrian was pronounced dead.
The preliminary investigation determined that a pedestrian was walking north in the west crosswalk of New York Avenue and North Capitol Street, Northwest. While in the middle of the intersection, the traffic signal turned green for west bound traffic. As the pedestrian continued to cross New York Avenue, a blue 2011 Subaru Legacy struck the pedestrian and fled the scene.
The decedent has been identified as 29-year-old Shanell Holiday, of Southeast, DC.
- Suspect Sought in M Street Robbery
The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) seeks the community’s assistance in locating a robbery suspect.
On Friday, July 17, 2026, at approximately 2:52 p.m., a female victim was walking in the 100 block of M Street, Northeast. The suspect approached the victim and snatched her purse. The suspect fled the scene before responding officers arrived.
The suspect was captured by nearby surveillance cameras and can be seen in this video and the attached photo.
- MPD Arrests Juvenile in Rosedale Street Homicide
The Metropolitan Police Department announces the arrest of a juvenile male in a homicide that occurred in Northeast.
On Saturday, July 11, 2026, at approximately 8:24 p.m., Fifth District officers responded to the 1600 block of Rosedale Street, Northeast, for the report of a man down. Upon arrival, officers located a juvenile male on the sidewalk suffering from a gunshot wound. DC Fire and EMS responded to the scene, and after finding no signs consistent with life, they pronounced the victim dead.
The detectives’ investigation determined that the offense occurred within a home in the 1600 block of Rosedale Street, NE.
The victim has been identified as 13-year-old Ahmad Mims, of Northeast, DC.
On Wednesday, August 19, 2026, pursuant to a DC Superior Court pre-petition custody order, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force located and arrested a 12-year-old juvenile male of Northeast, DC. The juvenile has been charged with Voluntary Manslaughter while Armed.
- MPD Investigating New Jersey Avenue Homicide
The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating the homicide of an infant in Southeast.
On Sunday, August 16, 2026, at approximately 9:47 p.m., First District officers responded to the report of an unconscious infant at an apartment in the 800 block of New Jersey Avenue, Southeast. Upon arrival, officers located an unresponsive female infant suffering from blunt force injuries. DC Fire and EMS responded to the scene and transported the infant to an area hospital where she later died.
On Tuesday, August 18, 2026, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for D.C. ruled the cause of death to be blunt force trauma and the manner of death to be homicide.
The infant has been identified as 2-month-old Khamyah Honesty, of Southeast, DC.
Detectives quickly identified that the incident had domestic overtones. Detectives from the Special Victims Unit of MPD’s Homicide Branch continue to actively investigate Khamyah’s death in coordination with the United States Attorney’s Office.
