
We are just a few days away from the Fourth of July and, along with it, all the slate of Freedom 250 celebrations. Quick question: Can we truly celebrate freedom in an increasingly restrictive society where people are getting arrested for making fun of or touching floating paint chips? Well, for starters, Mott’s Market is officially open! You may recall that neighbors rallied together to save Mott’s when the longtime owners decided to sell (The Hill is Home). And once they banded together, it’s been about three years of steady work and dedication –and District inspections– to bring the vision of a cozy, upscale corner market to fruition. Have you been? A well-meaning but somewhat naïve neighbor asks why the Frederick Douglass Bridge isn’t illuminated this year over on NextDoor. I don’t know if you can tell by the sheer craziness of EVERYTHING ELSE THAT IS GOING ON that lighting the Frederick Douglass bridge is probably not a priority for the local admin.
