
A reminder that Cinco de Mayo may be the most American of Mexican holidays and it’s DEFINITELY NOT Mexican Independence Day. Anyway, Happy Margarita Drinking Day and all that! On to what may be happening around us.
First up, this is not Capitol Hill but it happened not too far from here and goes under WTF: A Texas man opened fire near the Washington Monument earlier today. A 15-year old kid was hit somehow in the melee, but is expected to be okay. More info over at WTOP.
By the way, Guido Reichstadter is still hanging out at the top of one of the Frederick Douglass arcs. He has been there since Friday, May 1, protesting … *gestures wildly all around us.* USA Today

Rep. Cory Mills is not great and no one likes him– according to Mother Jones. And yes, he beat up his girlfriend and MPD put pressure on the arresting officer to… not arrest him. (Florida Politics)
Which is a good segue into the fact that several MPD are getting fired for improperly classifying crime stats. Washington City Paper and also NBC Washington.

DC developer Chris Donatelli has died. He and his firm were behind some projects that sought to revitalize DC, such as Park Kennedy and The Ethel in Ward 7. (Washington Business Journal)
His death comes about a month after being ordered to pay nearly $30 million after forging his father’s signature for a loan (Hoodline). This was not his first time doing that kind of thing (WCP). Our condolences to his family.
