Then and Now: The Penn Theater

Movie theaters have been part of Capitol Hill for over 100 years. While they started on main streets, they soon spread out throughout the neighborhood. In the 1930s, however, the trend was again towards having them centrally located, large, and air-conditioned. One of these theaters was the Penn Theater, on Pennsylvania Avenue near 7th Street. Today, it’s a mixed use development that still maintains parts of the old facade.
