Do you love piggies and reusing, reducing and recycling? Then bring your pumpkins down to Eastern Market THIS SATURDAY November 8 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for Pumpkins for Pigs. This heartwarming event supports piggies and other animals at animal sanctuaries. Need more convincing? Check out this adorable video of piggies eating punkins! In addition to your pumpkins in good condition (no wax! no paint!), you are also encouraged to bring other veggies in good condition. Just want to donate and skip hauling your pumpkins? It’s the Second Saturday of the month! That means Capitol Hill Books is having their monthly wine and cheese, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. as well as their book club. ALSO! 10% discount from 5 to closing! BOOKS! Capitol Hill Books is at 657 C Street SE.

Ever wondered how Capitol Hill rowhomes got modernized with all the things that bring us comfort? This Overbeck Lecture might be what you’re looking for. Union Station has TWO fun weekend activities for you: The Friday West Wing market has bread, empanadas, fresh produce and flowers and more! The Saturday Rail Market at Union Station is happening this Saturday and future Saturdays, so put it on the calendar. Enjoy vintage finds and all sorts of different vendors. More information here. 

And at the far end of the Hill, enjoy the RFK Flea Market every Saturday, weather permitting, starting at 7 a.m. and wrapping up at 3 p.m. For more info, click here.

OFF-HILL

It may no longer be the Newseum, but the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg Center is still a great gathering place. On October 29, abstract artist Lindsay Adams will be unveiling her latest work, titled “Ceremony.” The solo exhibit, beautifully curated by Claudia M. Watts, will be up through March 7, 2026. At the National Museum of Women in the Arts, Tawny Chatmon’s show titled, “Sanctuaries of Truth, Dissolution of Lies” is extremely personal and moving. Bring hankies and apologies to the people who had to catch the show at the same time as me. Yes, I was sobbing the whole time. More info here.

Did you miss Spike and Mike’s Animation Extravaganza last weekend? No worries: They’ll be popping up this weekend at the AFI in Silver Spring. If you’re a fan of irreverent and downright weird animation, this is the show for you. The Extravaganza will be showing only at Regal Theaters, so click here to get your tickets.
