History:

Then and Now: The National Capitol Brewing Company

The National Capital Brewing Company was one of many breweries in D.C. before Prohibition. Built by Albert Carry after buying out Humphrey & Juenemann’s Brewery, it was one of the bigger operations in the city. With the banning of alcohol, it became a dairy, with the space eventually taken over by a grocery store.

Today, the Safeway anchors a large mixed-use development. The alley behind it is named for Albert Carry. (RSP)
