DC is going to start sending texts to dangerous drivers, which seems like a peculiar thing to do, but could have lasting effect. If you have a database of repeat offenders, why not just ticket, tow, boot, impound? Then again, if receiving a caring note can make people think twice before deciding to take their lives (Stanford University), maybe a Big Brother-type note from a caring government can remind people that their behavior is being tracked. On Tuesday we had a two-alarm fire in the 1300 block of H Street NE. Thankfully, DCFD was able to put the blaze out very quickly. Another blaze father south on 11th Street SE was also put out quickly (see photo). This extra dry, warm weather can cause fires (see air quality today), so please be careful with fireworks during the long holiday, and don’t forget to water your trees–– especially young ones.
