The To Do List: Week of March 31, 2023

This will be a short and sweet To Do List, hoping your March was good and that your April starts off with a bang. Here are a few suggestions for your weekend and beyond:

The Great Ward 6 Clean happens tomorrow, April 1, all across Ward 6. Starting at 10 a.m., join your neighbors at several locations. We will join Councilmember Charles Allen’s office at Eastern Market Metro Plaza, but you can be part of cleanups at the following locations:

  • Eastern Market Metro Park (hosted by CM Allen’s Office)
    • Meet near metro entrance; will cover Barracks Row, as well
  • H Street NE (hosted by CM Allen’s Office and 6A02 Commissioner Mike Velasquez)
    • Meet at 8th and H, NE
  • King Greenleaf Rec Center (hosted by CM Allen’s Office):
    • Meet by the front entrance
  • Anacostia River Trail (hosted by Bozzuto)
    • Meet at the trail entrance
  • Barney Circle (hosted by 6B08 Commissioner Edward Ryder): 
    • Meet at 17th and Barney Circle
  • Navy Yard (hosted by neighbor Tori Collins): 
    • Meet in front of the AC Hotel (867 New Jersey Ave, SE)
  • Tyler Elementary School (hosted by Tyler PTO)
  • Maury Elementary School (hosted by 6A04 Commissioner Amber Gove and Maury ES PTO)
  • JO Wilson (hosted by JO Wilson PTO and ANC 6C01)
  • NoMa Clean-Up (hosted by 2M Tenants Association and 6E05 Commissioner Ahmad Abu-Khalaf)
    • Meet at 2M Apartments (M Street and North Capitol St, NE)
    • Begins at 11 am and runs until 2 pm. 
  • C St, NE (hosted by neighbor Maggie Edwards)
    • Meet at North Carolina Avenue and 15th St, NE
  • SW Duck Pond & Library Clean-Up
    • Meet in front of the SW Library near the playground

Pancakes! Go get them! 8-11 a.m.! Do it!

Troop 500 will be holding a special pancake breakfast tomorrow morning, April 1, 8-11 a.m. at the Lutheran Church of the Reformation. This pancake breakfast is a fundraiser for the scouts, so bring your appetite. More info is available at this Facebook event link.

The Capital Art Book Fair is happening at Eastern Market on Saturday and Sunday, noon to 8 pm on Saturday and noon to 4 pm on Sunday. Ahead of the book fair, why not catch a special exhibitor panel discussion at CHAW, from 11 am to noon. More info here.

Bloomaroo at the Wharf has been rescheduled to Sunday, April 2 from 2-9 p.m. The Wharf-wide festival celebrates the lovely season with kites, special cocktails, a haiku creation station and more. Find out more here.

Don’t forget: Union Pub is Capitol Lounge for one glorious day!

The Hill Center has wonderful programs every day of the week. If you’ve ever wanted to learn how to draw, or practice in a nurturing space, why not give Basic Drawing Techniques a chance? The class meets Tuesdays, starting April 4 and going through the 25. Sign up here.

Feeling like leaving the Hill a little? The drop by the MLK, Jr. branch of the DC Public library and visit We Who Believe in Freedom: Black Feminists in DC. as you are on Barracks Row has great events happening almost every day of the week: from crafting on Wednesdays to karaoke on Thursdays and Sundays to Saturday dance parties, this queer-safe space welcomes everyone. Check out their calendar of events here.

Every Thursday, Kelly’s Irish Times has comedy! The Batting Cage Comedy show starts at 8 p.m. and is free. More info here.

On Wednesday evenings, make it trivia! Two Girls Trivia runs a quiz at Fight Club starting at 7 p.m. You can also catch them at Biergarten Haus on Tuesday evenings. For more information and quiz hints, check out their Twitter, @twogirlstrivia.

Labyrinth has great events almost every night of the week, except for Monday. If you’re looking to demo board games or enjoy some of your favorites with old and new friends, check out their event calendar. For instance, their Magic: The Gathering night is on Tuesdays. More info on that event here.
