From sculptures to Little Libraries to Little Art Galleries to many other forms of self-expression, Hill front yards are waiting to be discovered. Last week, on the occasion of the Burning of Washington, one of our readers on Twitter sent us a message with a new discovery:
It didn’t take long for our new friend, MannyKid on Capitol Hill, to say hello and answer a few questions. Thank you to Manny’s dad, who was able to interpret from Mannequin into English. I have edited the replies lightly for clarity.
What is Manny’s full name (and pronouns)?
The full name is just Manny. Manny is what people what it to be. Between different hair, and the eye shade, Manny has been referred both as he and she. So Manny will be whatever fits the occasion.
How long has Manny lived on the Hill?
Manny moved to the Hill on December 31, 2020, which happens to be Lord Voldemort’s birthday. The tableaux started over the Presidential inauguration timeframe. We were trying to do historical dates, but started adding movie dates.
What is Manny’s favorite holiday?
So far, it’s been May the 4th. The Burning of the White House has been a bucket list item. The obscure outfits get people thinking or confused, which adds to the enjoyment.
Who are Manny’s biggest fans?
Manny’s biggest fan besides the kids that walk by is, perhaps, our neighbor. She is always asking what’s next. The early morning crowd really enjoys it the most as well.
Who does Manny admire or look up to?
I think their favorite character is Bill on Capitol Hill He fits that perfectly.
