Kayaking the Anacostia

In our continuing quest to get our photographer killed, or at least very wet, we sent him out recently with noted Anacostia River Guide Tim Krepp for an inflatable kayak tour of the Anacostia. (RSP)
It was exactly the sort of hot D.C. summer day that makes you a) wish you didn’t live here and b) yearn cool water breezes. Which sounded good until it became clear that those inflatable kayaks did not inflate themselves (RSP)
There are no pictures of the actual launching, due to the fact that the camera (and everything else likely to suffer from water damage) were carefully stowed in ziploc bags. (RSP)
But all that work was absolutely worth it, as this picture already goes a long way towards showing. (RSP)
We had launched just south of the Whitney Young (East Capitol Street) bridge, which has this incredible view underneath (RSP)
While wildlife was not too prevalent, due to the fact that it was noon, presumably, this Great Blue Heron did take off most photogenically. In the next weeks, we will look at some of the sites that were paddled past. (RSP)
