Hey there, everyone! It’s a beautiful Tuesday sitting pretty in the middle of a wave of downright cool weather– plus kids are back in school, so who would dare complain? Let’s remember all of this when it’s October 15 and it’s 87 degrees and muggy, shall we? Onward!

Yesterday was the first day of school for the District of Columbia Public Schools and Mayor Bowser kicked the day off at the ribbon-cutting for Maury Elementary– one of a few stops in Ward 6. The Hill is Home
The Mayor kicked off the new year with a shiny press release full of the modernizations that have taken place over the summer. You know, it’s exciting. Let’s celebrate. The DC Line
But not all is rosy photo ops and gleeful children, like the ones captured here by WTOP: 27% of DCPS staff still has expired background checks as of August 19 of this year, and parents are rightfully upset. Just ask Ward 6 parents Denise Krepp and Danica Petroshius. Washington City Paper
Incidentally, you should slow down for children going to school each and every day. Much like every day is dog and cat day, every day should be “arriving at school safe and alive day.” This is not hard.
Then again, and certainly not to minimize DCPS’s actions, Military.com reports that despite mass shootings like the one in the Washington Navy Yard, the armed forces still have trouble tracking base access.
Washingtonian has a sneak peek of Emilie’s, which as you may already know will be where Frager’s was, 1101 Pennsylvania Avenue SE. Catch up on JDLand tidbits. You know you want to. I picture the tidbits like bonbons, honestly. They go well with a satin robe and marabou slippers.

Remember Raymond Holton, who was trapped for five days inside the Capper Senior Apartments after the fire last year? He’s suing the District for $3 million. WTOP
Someone will buy the Hechinger Mall…. but will they just raze it and rebuild it? I really hope not. They’d better not mess with the Modell’s. Washington Business Journal
