  • MPD Investigating Irving Street Homicide

The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred in Northeast.
On Saturday, July 4, 2026, at approximately 5:54 a.m., Fifth District officers responded to the 1800 block of Irving Street, Southeast, for the report of an unconscious person. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male who was unconscious and not breathing. DC Fire and EMS responded to the scene and found no signs consistent with life and pronounced the victim dead. The victim was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for autopsy
The victim has been identified as 55-year-old Adeyinka Aderemi, of Northeast, DC.

  • MPD Arrests Suspect in Northeast Homicide

The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) announces the arrest of a suspect in a homicide that occurred in Northeast.
On Sunday, May 24, 2026, at approximately 4:33 p.m., Sixth District officers responded to the report of an unconscious person in the 3300 block of East Capitol Street, Northeast. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male victim who was unconscious but breathing and suffering from severe injuries. DC Fire and EMS responded and transported the victim to a local hospital. Despite all lifesaving efforts, the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on Friday, May 29, 2026.
The victim was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. On Wednesday, June 3, 2026, an autopsy determined the victim’s cause of death was the result of multiple blunt force injuries. The death was ruled a homicide and the detectives’ investigation established that the offense occurred at a residence in the 3600 block of Jay Street, Northeast.
The victim has been identified as 35-year-old Dalonte Lamont Jackson, of Northeast, DC.
On Tuesday, June 16, 2026, pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant, local authorities of Jackson, NC, arrested 35-year-old Maurice Pierre Hawley, of Northwest, DC. Hawley began the extradition process to be returned to Washington DC.
On Tuesday, June 30, 2026, Hawley was extradited to the custody of the MPD Fugitive Unit and transported to the Homicide Branch where he was formally charged, pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant, with First Degree Murder.
The Metropolitan Police Department would like to thank the United States Marshals Service and the North Carolina Marshal Fugitive Task Force for their help with locating and arresting the suspect in North Carolina.

  • MPD Arrests Suspect in Minnesota Avenue Armed Robbery

The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) announces the arrest of a suspect in an armed robbery (gun) that occurred in Northeast.
On Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at approximately 12:30 p.m., the suspect approached the victim in the 4000 block of Minnesota Avenue, Northeast. The suspect brandished a handgun, took the victim’s sunglasses, and then fled the scene. The suspect was apprehended by responding officers.
On Tuesday, June 30, 2026, 23-year-old Jemise Dezzou, of Bowie, MD, was arrested and charged with Armed Robbery (Gun).

  • MPD Provides Update on Shooting at Place of Worship

The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) provides an update on the shooting that left two men injured at a place of worship in Northeast.
On Monday, June 29, 2026, at approximately 4:05 p.m., MPD officers in the area of the Rosedale neighborhood heard sounds of gunshots near 17th Street and Gales Street, Northeast. Officers immediately responded to the scene, where they were directed by bystanders to a place of worship in the 700 block of 18th Street, Northeast. Inside the place of worship, Officers located two adult males suffering from non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. DC Fire and EMS responded and transported both men to area hospitals for treatment.
The investigation determined that a group of people were within a fenced-in utility area situated on the church’s property at the rear of the building, where at least one suspect amongst the group discharged a firearm towards the group. The suspect fled the scene.
During the investigation, a group of witnesses remained inside the church to be interviewed by detectives. Officers observed that a juvenile male within this group was carrying two backpacks. Without incident, the juvenile was determined to be in possession of two firearms and was arrested. Both firearms were recovered. The 16-year-old juvenile male of Southeast, D.C., was charged with two counts of Carrying a Pistol without a License, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Ammunition, and Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device.
The shooting and the arrested juvenile’s involvement in the shooting remain under investigation.
