- Chief of Police Announces Five Juvenile Curfew Zones
The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) announces the establishment of five Juvenile Curfew Zones.
The Juvenile Curfew Second Temporary Amendment Act of 2025 gives the Chief of the Metropolitan Police Department the authority to order a Juvenile Curfew Zone in an area where large groups of youths are gathering or intend to gather in a manner that poses a risk of substantial harm to public safety.

All five Juvenile Curfew Zones will be in effect from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. on Friday, April 3, Saturday, April 4 and Sunday, April 5, 2026.
Within a Juvenile Curfew Zone, persons under 18 are prohibited from gathering in a group of nine (9) or more in any public place or on the premises of any establishment unless engaged in certain exempted activities, which are listed here.
MPD reminds the public that a citywide curfew is in effect for all juveniles under 18 beginning nightly at 11:00 p.m., lasting until 6:00 a.m. the following morning.
- MPD Makes Third Arrest in a Massachusetts Avenue Shooting
The Metropolitan Police Department announces the third arrest in a shooting that occurred in Northwest.
On Friday, February 6, 2026, at approximately 4:12 p.m., First District officers were called to the Unit block of Massachusetts Avenue, Northeast, for the report of a shooting. A 15-year-old juvenile male was located conscious and breathing suffering from a gunshot wound. DC Fire and EMS responded and transported the victim to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Members of the United States Capitol Police responded and stopped two suspects near the offense location. As a result of the investigation by MPD detectives, both suspects were placed under arrest. A 17-year-old juvenile male, of Northeast, DC, and a 16-year-old juvenile male, of Southeast, DC, were charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun). An MPD K9 officer located a firearm near the scene.
MPD would like to thank the members of the United States Capitol Police who responded to this incident and stopped both suspects.
On Wednesday, March 25, 2026, pursuant to a D.C. Superior Court custody order a 14-year-old juvenile male, of Southeast, DC, was arrested and charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun).
- MPD Arrests Suspect in Benning Road Shootings
The Metropolitan Police Department announces the arrest of a suspect in two shootings that occurred in Northeast.
On Thursday, March 12, 2026, at approximately 9:02 p.m., Fifth District officers responded to the 1900 block of Benning Road, Northeast, for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male, conscious and breathing, suffering from gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. On Saturday, March 14, 2026, at approximately 8:43 p.m., the suspect and the victim were involved in an argument in the 2000 block of Benning Road, Northeast. During the argument, the suspect brandished a handgun, shot the victim, and then fled the scene. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. On Tuesday, March 24, 2026, pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force located and arrested 22-year-old Omar James, of Southeast, DC. James has been charged with two counts of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun).
- MPD Arrests Suspect in Northeast Assault
The Metropolitan Police Department announces the arrest in an assault that occurred in Northeast.
On Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at approximately 11:40 a.m., the suspect approached the victim and their young child in the area of 10th Street and H Street, Northeast. The suspect attempted to speak to the victim several times as they walked. When the victim asked the suspect to leave them alone, the suspect brandished a handgun and waved it around. The suspect then fled the scene.
As a result of the detectives’ investigation, 33-year-old Tayvon Jones, of Southeast, DC, was arrested and charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun), Carrying a Pistol Without a License, and Felon in Possession. A handgun was recovered at the time of the arrest.
- The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred in Northeast.
On Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at approximately 10:10 p.m., Fifth District officers responded to the 2000 block of Benning Road, Northeast. Officers located an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound. DC Fire and EMS personnel responded to the scene and transported the man to a local hospital for treatment. Despite all lifesaving efforts, the man succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The decedent has been identified as 26-year-old Jamal Blakes, of no fixed address.

- Suspect Arrested for Threats While Armed
The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) announces the arrest of a man for felony threats while armed.
On Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at approximately 1:27 p.m., the victim was working in his capacity as a Department of Public Works employee in the 700 block of 8th Street, Southeast. The suspect, who was irate that his vehicle had received a parking ticket, approached the victim and attempted to initiate a fight over the ticket. The suspect then retrieved a firearm from his vehicle and began following the victim, making threats and attempting to block the victim’s path. The suspect ultimately fled the scene.
On Wednesday, March 11, 2026, based on a suspect and vehicle lookout provided by MPD detectives, members of the U.S. Park Police located and arrested 36-year-old David Joshua Willoughby, of Capitol Heights, MD. MPD detectives were notified, and Willoughby was charged with Felony Threats While Armed (Gun).

- Suspects Sought in 8th Street Shooting
The Metropolitan Police Department seeks the community’s assistance in locating multiple suspects in a shooting that occurred early Saturday in Southeast.
On Saturday, March 28, 2026, at approximately 1:00 a.m., First District officers responded to the 400 block of 8th Street, Southeast, for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival an adult male victim was located suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported, conscious and breathing, to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
- MPD Seeking Suspects in Navy Yard Robbery
The Metropolitan Police Department is seeking the community’s assistance in identifying two suspects in a robbery that occurred on March 14, 2026, during disorderly activity in the Navy Yard. Additional details about the disorderly activity can be found here.
On Saturday, March 14, 2026, at approximately 10:00 p.m., multiple suspects assaulted two juvenile victims near the intersection of First Street and M Street, Southeast. The suspects forcibly removed the victim’s phones and other personal belongings. The suspects fled on foot. The victims were treated for minor injuries.
